Tax inspector sues Todd Chrisley for libel
Todd Chrisley’s list of legal problems continues to grow.
The reality show star is sued for defamation a second time by a woman who investigated his tax evasion suit.
Amy Doherty-Heinze, a former Georgia Department of Treasury investigator, says 53-year-old star “Chrisley Knows Best” is spreading lies about her. “Chrisley Confessions” podcast.
According to a lawsuit filed on Thursday and obtained by Page Six, Doherty-Heinze says the reality show star “falsely and maliciously” accused her of crimes during a recent investigation and insisted that she should be prosecuted in his place.
In addition, the reality show star repeatedly used the name Doherty-Heinze during a podcast episode in September 2021 and allegedly “campaigned” to fire her.
This is not the first time a reality show star has entered a legal battle with a former tax inspector.
In July 2021, Doherty-Heinze sued Chrisley for the same crime, saying he had accused her of “many crimes and misdemeanors” on his social networks and podcasts while she had researched him four years earlier.
While the case is still pending, the former tax inspector struck Chrisley with a new lawsuit after he had not withdrawn his testimony.
Todd and his wife, Julie Chrisley, were found guilty of bank fraud and tax evasion in June after they were originally charged in August 2019 and again in February.
Although the couple, facing up to 30 years in prison, have yet to be convicted, they have filed a joint motion for a new trial on the grounds that a witness “lied” during their spring trial.
The prosecution claimed that reality stars submitted false documents to banks when applying for loans. They also alleged that the mother of three, 49, had used fake credit reports and bank statements to rent a house in California.
Todd was found guilty of conspiracy to commit bank fraud, a plot to defraud the United States and tax evasion, while Julie was convicted of the same charges, as well as bank fraud and obstruction of justice.
After the verdict, the couple – with children Chase (26), Savannah (25) and Grayson (16) – leaned over their faith and asked their fans for spiritual support.
“I want you all to know that the messages we receive, the mail … gifts people leave at our door, flower arrangements … all of this is just overwhelming and much appreciated,” he said on his podcast in June.
“[But] we don’t want you to… waste your money on such things. … We don’t need anything. So the really best gift you can give us is prayer. “
Although they both have a “very sad, painful” road ahead, they try to focus on the things they can control.
“But we still remain in our faith and trust that God will do what He does best, because God is a miracle worker,” said Todd, “who also has two children from a previous marriage,” he said in another episode.
