Oscar-winning actress of “Moonstruck” passes away at age 89. Olympia Mary Dukakis was an American actress, director, producer, teacher, and activist. She died On Saturday (1 May 2021 ) at her home in New York City. She was suffering from certain illnesses for months.

Olympia Dukakis Family and Bio:

Olympia was born on June 20, 1931, in Lowell, Massachusetts. Her parents named Alexandra (Christos), from the Peloponnese, and Constantine S. are Greek Immigrants. she majored in physical therapy at Boston University on a scholarship from the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis. She graduated with BA. Olympia had an interest in acting and drama for that she entered a graduate program and did a master’s in fine arts. She married American actor Louis Zorich in 1962. She met with Zorich during an audition where they together cast as a married couple. They together had three children — Christina, Peter, and Stefan. They both co-found and ran The Whole Theatre Company in Montclair, New Jersey, for 19 years (1971-1990). She likes the work of actress Geraldine Page.

Olympia Dukakis Roles and Work:

She performed in over 130 stage productions, over 60 films, and in 50 television series. Best known as a screen actress, she started her career in theatre. She was nominated three times for an Emmy for her TV work – Lucky Day (1991), More Tales of the City (1998), and Joan of Arc (1999). Olympia Dukakis was awarded a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for Live Theater at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, California on May 24, 2013.

Olympia  was the 95th actress to receive an Academy Award; she won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for Moonstruck (1987) at The 60th Annual Academy Awards (1988) on April 11, 1988.

Olympia’s breaking role was in Moonstruck (1987) as Cher’s sardonic mother directed by Norman Jewison gives her stardom and a household name at age 56. Her Oscar award was stolen from her Kitchen and the robber only left the nameplate. She was not pretentious that’s why she keeps her award in her kitchen.

She performed in many plays and off Board ways shows as well as director and teacher.

In her last Recent interview, she told Irish news I think things are finally moving in the right direction, both for women and for minorities. We are far from reaching our goal but there’s a forward movement that’s real and strong.
