Olivia Culpo, sisters in the TLC show
The Culpo sisters are photogenic, with shiny hair and perfectly sculpted eyebrows, and cute designer clothes. They have over 5.5 million followers on Instagram. Two of the three contracting NFL players.
They too – to paraphrase the most famous of them, former Miss Universe Olivia – have no boundaries, no filters or personal space.
Of course, they have a reality show now.
“The Culpo Sisters” debuts on November 7th on TLC / Discovery + and follows siblings Aurora, Olivia and Sophia as they live, laugh, love and post-spon-con in sunny Los Angeles. And as Olivia promised, they don’t really hide anything from the camera.
“We’ve always been an open book,” said 30-year-old Olivia The Post. Besides, she added: “Our family is pretty crazy.”
“Bats are crazy,” agreed little sister Sophia.
In one episode, Aurora, a 33-year-old blogger mom and the only blonde in the group starts talking about sex with her husband the night before at a “Euphoria” party. (In April she filed for divorce from “Survivor” participant Michael Bortone.) Fashion influencer Olivia tortures her family by playing the cello to celebrate their parents’ 35th birthday.
“I like watching [Mom’s] face when you play and she is like – it’s a bit painful, but she wants to be sweet and grateful, but would rather you stop, ”recalls Sophia happily.
As for the 26-year-old “child” Sophia, without asking for permission, she wears her siblings’ new designer stilettos.
It’s not the only time on the show that Sophia steals her sisters’ belongings – prompting Olivia to obtain a padlock on the closet door.
Sophia did not apologize when the Culpo crew spoke to The Post. “What are the sisters for if not in their wardrobes?” she said smiling.
Aurora nodded, pointing to the gold bars in her ears: “I’m wearing Olivia’s earrings at the moment.”
The Culpo Sisters is all about fun, but the trio is also moving into some serious, emotional territory, including romance, heartache, divorce, and of course sibling rivalry.
“I really thought these kinds of reality shows were more fancy than they really are,” said Aurora. “I thought we’d have to play a little game or make things up, but it really wasn’t. They really just follow you all day, every day… I realized that the way they make a drama out of you is when you are so tired it just comes to the surface and it ends up being a great show.
The sisters share a few things with reality’s most famous sibling, the Kardashians: they are wellness / beauty / fashion traders, have different brands or companies, and often dress provocatively. But unlike Kim and Ko., These ladies hail from a small New England town and grew up in an eccentric, artistic family with no interest in fame, celebrities or designer brands.
And still not. “They call Olivia an influencer, but we don’t know why because we’re not influenced,” says their confused mom Susan at one point on the show.
The siblings and their two brothers, Pete and Gus – who appear with their parents sporadically in the new series – were born in Cranston, RI. Their father, Peter, opened several restaurants in the Boston area; Susan’s mum has played viola in various groups, including the Boston Symphony and the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra.
“We were all very peers – five of us in eight years – and our parents were always working, so we had to rely on ourselves,” said Olivia. The older kids cooked, cleaned and looked after the younger ones, allowing them to stay up late until they heard their dad’s car squeal in the driveway and they had to jump upstairs to bed as soon as possible to avoid getting into trouble. “It was fun,” she said.
Aurora was a mother, sometimes a dominant older sister; Sophia was a spoiled child.
“Sophia was like my baby,” said Aurora. “I used to wear her and French braid her hair.”
Meanwhile, Olivia – a classic middle child – demanded attention. “I used to just beg Aurora,” Can I just hug? Can I just follow you all day long? ” – he recalls.
Olivia was a self-proclaimed “nerd” who spent the summer at the band’s camp and played the cello. But everything changed during her sophomore at Boston University when she decided to try for Miss Rhode Island. She had never entered a competition before – this was not how her family was doing; her mom didn’t even wear makeup.
Olivia was wearing a dress that she borrowed for $ 20 and later realized she had a hole in it. Irrelevant. She won the title, then won Miss USA and then won Miss Universe in 2012.
Suddenly she became a celebrity, traveled the world and was dating singer Nick Jonas. She went with him to Los Angeles. When they broke up Olivia realized she had no identity, without the opportunity to earn a living and without a plan. She didn’t even have the money to buy groceries. Then she decided she had to take matters into her own hands.
About a decade later, Olivia – now joined by Aurora and Sophia on the West Coast – has an amazing 5.3 million followers on Instagram. She posed for the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue. Her sisters also joined the hustle and bustle of influencers on Instagram.
The idea for the reality show came from Instagram. “We were getting an overwhelming amount of feedback and people were saying, ‘We love you together, please put on a show!’ Said Olivia. “And then we began to realize that we had a lot of fun working together.”
“We already share so much of our lives [on social media]Aurora added. “[So] we thought, “Why not give the production part to someone else?”
The family began filming the series in October. Before they packed, their lives had become much more dramatic than they had expected. Sophia has moved out of Olivia’s LA home and goes to New York to be with her boyfriend, New York Jets player Braxton Berrios. Aurora and her two-and-a-half-year-old husband decided to separate, leaving her for divorce, raising two young children – son Remi and daughter Solea.
“I felt like the time couldn’t have been worse,” remembers Aurora. “We decided to divorce in November… so it really happened during filming. And it was really difficult, but I made a commitment to be sensitive to our audience and to enable people to get to know us a little more.
This led Olivia – who also dated NFL player Danny Amendola and former Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow – voicing an opinion about her relationships, saying she always thought she would marry at 30 and have kids. At one point in the show, she breaks down talking about her ex-boyfriend treating her as “less than human.”
She is currently in a loving relationship with Christian McCaffrey of the San Francisco 49ers and – although she previously swore never to date another footballer – finally proudly adopts her WAG status.
“It’s a real-time commitment, just an amazing sport, and they are the best at what they do and at this level it takes an insane amount of dedication and focus. So it is often the case that you are not necessarily first and you are used to it as a WAG, but we do it with pride! ” she said.
Despite all the drama, the sisters said the creation of the show brought them even closer together.
“Fighting [were] epic, but we’re a bit like little kids, ‘said Olivia. “We have a five-second bounce.” But she still hasn’t taken the padlock out of her closet – Sophia still visits a lot, after all. – It’s still there. Everyone is listening? she said, looking at her sisters. – It’s still there.
