High school years

Leonard attended Canyon Springs High School in Moreno Valley, California, for his first two years of high school. For his junior year, he transferred to Martin Luther King High School. Leonard averaged 12.7 points and 9.9 rebounds per game for the Aztecs as a freshman at San Diego State University in 2009–10.
