Dean Swihart, who is he? Jackie Walorski’s spouse is the focus as the Indiana lawmaker passes away at age 58.

Representative Jackie Walorski from Indiana and two of her employees perished in an automobile accident on August 3, 2022. Kevin McCarthy, the head of the House Republicans, tweeted a confirmation of her passing.

He explained that Dean Swihart, Walorski’s husband, was the first to receive the awful news, and he urged everyone to remember her family in their prayers:

The chief of staff for Walorski, Tim Cummings, made the following statement in response to the latter’s passing:

To be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, she has come home. Please remember her family in your prayers.

The congresswoman and her staff members, District Director Zachery Potts and Communications Director Emma Thomson, were in a car in Indiana when another northbound vehicle arrived “left of center,” colliding head-on with Walorski’s car. This information was provided by the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office.

The other car’s driver, Edith Schmucker, was also declared dead at the scene of the collision.

US President Joe Biden also made a public statement on Jackie Walorski’s passing, commemorating her work on behalf of the public:

“She was respected by members of both parties for her work, despite the fact that we may have represented opposing parties and disagreed on many subjects. She has been a valuable collaborator for my team and me as we prepare for the historic White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health this autumn, which will be distinguished by her genuine concern for rural America’s challenges.

In the meantime, Nancy Pelosi, speaker of the House, referred to Walorski as a “lifelong Hoosier” and noted that she led a “life of service”:

“Congresswoman Walorski, a native Hoosier, spent a life of service: whether caring for underprivileged children in Romania, speaking out for her neighborhood in the Indiana Statehouse, or serving for over ten years in the House.”
She added that Walorski was adored and respected by her colleagues in America’s two major political parties:

She was appreciated by colleagues on both sides of the aisle for her personal generosity, and she zealously represented the views of her voters in north Indiana in Congress.

In addition, Pelosi mandated that the flags at the US Capitol fly at half-staff in memory of Walorski. Dean Swihart, the Republican representative’s husband, is still alive. At the time of her death, she was 58.

Educator Dean Swihart taught music to students in grades K–6 at Hums Elementary and Twin Branch Elementary Schools. He was married to the late Jackie Walorski, an Indiana congresswoman.

Even though there is little information available about Swihart’s personal life, Walorski’s official website noted that the politician and her husband both previously served as missionaries in Romania and spent four years managing a foundation to “provide food and medical supplies to impoverished children there.”

In 2014, Walorski shared a throwback image of herself and Swihart talking about their previous lives as Christian missionaries. The US National Anthem was sung by Swihart in 2015 before the Indiana Pacers vs. Miami Heat game in Indianapolis on Easter Sunday in front of a crowd of about 8,000 spectators.
