Charli XCX confirms she has written songs for a potential new Britney Spears album



Charli XCX has confirmed that she has been hired to write songs for Britney Spears’ potential 10th studio album.

The “Official” singer candidly revealed that she collaborated with the band Princess of Pop on the project during appearance on “Watch What Happens Live” Monday.

However, after the news “leaked to the press”, the situation changed.

Charli, 31, explained that she then learned that Spears may not have been aware of the process when the “Toxic” singer took to social media to deny claims that she would return to music in January.

“Britney then posted and said, ‘I don’t get texted by random people.’ I thought, “OK, go for it!” So I don’t know if she was involved in the process,” the songwriter continued.

“Her team was running before they could walk,” she added. “Britney probably has plenty of other projects she’s focused on. So I was asked about it, but I don’t know if it’s true.

Andy Cohen asked if Charli had written any songs, hoping Spears, 42, would record them.

“Of course,” said the English hitmaker. “I went to Malibu and wrote. You always write songs hoping that Britney will record them… but you know, she didn’t record them.

However, he still hopes Spears will change her mind, saying, “It would be a dream come true.”

Representatives for Spears were not immediately available for comment.

In January, sources told Page Six that Charli and Julia Michaels were among the songwriters invited to work on the “Circus” singer’s possible new album.

At the time, the project was in its early stages and Spears had not recorded any of the songs.

The Grammy winner’s last album, “Glory,” was released in 2016, but since then she has worked on smaller projects, including “Hold Me Closer” with Elton John in 2021 and “Mind Your Business” with Will.i.amem in 2023

Even though Spears’ team has apparently urged her to return to the recording studio, the pop star is reluctant and has vowed never to release another album in January.

“Let me be clear that most of the news is bullshit!!! They keep saying that I will approach random people to record a new album… I will never go back to the music industry!!!” – the “Gimme More” singer wrote on Instagram.
